EPISODE DESCRIPTION

The Beast Within (long) [18]

Reflecting on the strong influence that William Golding’s classic novel Lord of the Flies had on him as a 17-year-old lover of literature, author Mo Tejani discusses the book—its origins, its universal relevance, and what the ‘beastie’ in the novel symbolizes in post-World War II history— and what happens when he gets a chance at the age of 58 to teach the novel to 17-year-olds at an international school in northern Thailand. Mo also elaborates on what the allegorical character in the story, “Shetani,” who exists within all of us, signifies for the future.

This audio conversation serves as a companion piece to the story “The Beast Within” in Mo’s book Global Crossroads: Memoirs of a Travel Junkie (February 2012).

This is one of a number of conversations between award-winning author Mohezin (Mo) Tejani www.motejani.com” and digital nomad, educator, and edtech consultant Chris Smith shamblesguru.com hosted at globalcrossroads.podomatic.com
